You’ve heard it said before: “No Pain, No Gain!” But “pain” is not what we want you to think of when you think about medspa treatments. Thankfully, we have several resources to help minimize pain during medspa treatments such as fillers, Botox, Morpheus8, laser hair removal, and more.
Our aestheticians, nurse injectors, and physician assistant have many tools to make your medspa experience more comfortable. The level of pain associated with medspa treatments varies for each treatment and, of course, for each patient.
Techniques to Reduce Pain during Injectable Treatments
Injectables such as BOTOX®, Dysport®, JUVÉDERM®, and Restylane® are generally just slightly painful. During these treatments your discomfort is comparable to a little pinch. Nevertheless, we still want to make you comfortable during these treatments. Both Patty and Bernice keep a freezer full of ice packs — and even a cool ice stick! — on hand for injectable treatments. Applying ice immediately before injections is a quick and simple way to provide temporary numbing.
Because the lips are one of the most sensitive areas on the body, receiving lip filler can be a little more painful than Botox. The good news is that the syringe of filler our injectors use also has lidocaine mixed with it. Lidocaine is a safe, commonly used local anesthetic that temporarily blocks nerves to alleviate pain. In some instances, our injectors may utilize local numbing cream, too.
How to Reduce Pain during Morpheus8
Morpheus8 combines microneedling and radiofrequency to promote the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. Depending on your pain threshold, the pricks from the 24 blunt pins of Morpheus8 may be painful. However, we have lots of pain management techniques for Morpheus8! Nearly all patients will use a topical numbing cream. The topical numbing cream takes approximately 30 minutes to start working. If you still find the pain unbearable, you may request to use our Pro-Nox machine – a self-administered nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”). We recently wrote a dedicated blog post about Pro-Nox which you can find here.
Relieving Pain During Laser Hair Removal
Generally, laser hair removal isn’t a very painful procedure. The discomfort from the laser is quick to pass. The Center for Plastic Surgery Ann Arbor uses Triton by InMode, the latest technology in laser hair removal. Triton’s cool contact technology immediately relieves associated pain. If you are especially sensitive to pain, our aestheticians may be able to apply a topical numbing cream before your laser hair removal treatment, too.
Using Local Blocks for Dealing with Pain During MedSpa Treatments
Our injectors, Patty and Bernice, are able to utilize local blocks upon request for treatments such as Morpheus8 and skin resurfacing. A local block is an injectable anesthetic that provides short-term nerve blocking therefore eliminating pain at a specific site.
Center for Plastic Surgery Ann Arbor Cares About Your Comfort
You may think these pain management techniques are common practice, but many practices or providers don’t offer them. Many practices are simply concerned with booking as many patients as possible. They don’t offer pain management options so they can reduce the length of appointments. We’ve heard firsthand from patients who have received treatments without ever being offered any sort of pain relief.
While the finished product is our goal — reduction in wrinkles, rejuvenated skin, eliminated hair — we want to be considerate of your entire journey from beginning to end. We take the extra time to make sure we provide you with a positive experience. We’re happy to provide these options to help minimize your pain during your medpsa treatments.
Our providers can address any concerns during your medspa consultation and develop a plan to make you as comfortable as possible during your treatments. Contact us today at 734.712.2323 to book your appointment or you can request one here.
