The cost of a facelift at our Ann Arbor practice depends on the extent of the procedure and the technique used by the surgeon. The cost of a mini facelift (also called a MACS facelift) using a local anesthetic plus sedation, for example, will be lower than a full facelift performed using general anesthesia. We also offer flexible payment plans to help you achieve your goals.
You can see the cost of combining a facelift with other procedures, such as neck liposuction, on our plastic surgery pricing page.
The price of your surgery includes:

Facelifts vary in extent, depending on the location and skin laxity. All facelifts are done on an outpatient basis under sedation with local anesthesia. If there is loose skin in the lower face or neck, incisions behind or in front of the ears may be necessary.
Incisions are made in the hairline (or along the hair margin) above the ear, extending down around the earlobe and extending in or below the hairline behind the ear. The neck muscles are tightened, the facial skin is re-draped and lifted, and the excess skin is removed.
Mini Facelift Surgery
A mini facelift is an effective option for people who have mild or moderate facial sagging that doesn’t require a more invasive approach. A mini facelift won’t address sagging neck skin and isn’t the right procedure for patients whose concerns also involve the mid-face. The benefit of a mini facelift is that the incisions are shorter, and it requires less recovery time than a full facelift. The best way to determine if you’re a good candidate for a mini facelift is to schedule a consultation with one of our surgeons.
Alternatives to Facelift Surgery
People with mild to moderate sagging on the lower face and neck may be candidates for the minimally invasive FaceTite procedure. This FDA-cleared procedure can provide an effective alternative to a facelift for people who are not ready for surgery. It can be performed as a standalone procedure or combined with Morpheus8 RF microneedling.
Can a Facelift Be Combined With Other Procedures?
A facelift focuses on the lower face. To rejuvenate the upper face, a facelift may be combined with a brow lift to address a sagging forehead or brows that hang onto the upper eyelids. The brow lift may be performed using the endoscopic technique, which involves short incisions hidden in the upper hairline, or with the coronal technique which requires longer incisions.

Recovery after a facelift can be divided into the physical healing stage and the social readiness stage. Even though each patient recovers at their own pace, the timeline below provides a general idea of what to expect:
Day of surgery: You’ll go home with dressings wrapped around the head and neck. Your surgeon typically removes them on the following day. Prescription medication helps minimize discomfort.
First week: It’s important to get plenty of rest, but also be sure to take short walks around the house to boost your circulation. After the first couple of days, most patients experience very little discomfort and no longer need prescription pain relief. By the end of the first week, you’ll notice reduced swelling and start feeling more like your normal self.
Second week: We usually remove sutures at some point during the second week of recovery. Bruising and swelling continue to decrease, and you may feel comfortable returning to work. You can apply makeup to camouflage redness or bruising.
Weeks 3 to 4: Most of the physical healing is complete at this point. You can usually go out to dinner or social gatherings with friends without feeling self-conscious at this point. However, residual swelling can last up to 3 months or more.
Week 5 and beyond: If you’re planning to attend a significant social event, such as a class reunion or wedding, you should allow at least 3 months to fully heal after your facelift. More time is even better, just in case you experience any minor complications.

Facelift FAQs
What age is too late for facelift surgery?
Your age is not the primary factor determining if you’re a good candidate for a facelift. Even though most facelift patients are in their late 40s to early 60s, someone in their 70s or older who is in good overall health and wants to appear more youthful can benefit from a facelift.
What’s the best age to get a facelift?
There is no specific “best age” to undergo a facelift. However, patients who get facelift surgery earlier—say in their early 50s—tend to see their results last longer.
Is the surgery worth it?
Whether facelift surgery is worth it is something that only you can determine. On the RealSelf website, 93% of actual patients say a facelift is “worth it.” To feel good about the results of the procedure, it’s important to choose a skilled plastic surgeon with experience performing facelift surgery.
Does the procedure make you age faster?
No. How fast the signs of aging develop depends on your genetics and your lifestyle. You’ll appear several years younger after a facelift, but the aging process continues. You can’t change your genes, but you can avoid spending too much time in the sun, quit smoking, and take other steps to slow the aging process.
How many years younger will I look after facelift surgery?
In most cases, a facelift will result in a patient looking about 10 years younger.
How long will my results last?
Your facelift results can last for several years or more. You can extend the results by being diligent about applying sunscreen and scheduling periodic nonsurgical facial rejuvenation treatments.
